Welcome to newsletter #26 from IoTAS, your ‘go to’ 3GPP interoperability testing and associated services provider.
The first thing you may have noticed is that our logo now incorporates a world backdrop, which we feel is a great way to reinforce our global presence and ability to deploy live network testing services for your wireless devices across the world.
However, there is another equally important statement we are making with this image change which is to underline our commitment to the environment. For example we have been extending our local global testing network to reduce our impact on the environment from air pollution. Of course the Corona virus pandemic has enforced travel limitations on us all but we had already started to reduce travel (land as well as air), increasing our recycling activities and lowering our companies carbon footprint. It all makes a difference.
In the meantime we continue to provide top class, professional services to the 3GPP marketplace. If you have a wireless device that requires testing on operator networks, are seeking approvals management, or consultancy then please contact IoTAS to discuss our global solutions on +44 (0)1223 810010 or email on firstname.lastname@example.org
So that you can find the locations where IoTAS are able to support your testing requirements we have recently improved our website to make it clearer ‘how’ and ‘where’ we can provide support.
By clicking on this ‘Coverage Map’ you will be taken to our website where you will be able to click on interactive maps displaying our levels of available support for those countries.

The big switch off – 2G / 3G will become a thing of the past
You may be aware that numerous mobile network operators across the world have or are in the process of shutting down their 2G (and 3G) services so that these bands can be repurposed for newer technologies such as 4G LTE.
The ‘big switch off’ is driven by a desire to reuse these aging network spectrums in order to deliver faster and more efficient networks offering 4G LTE and 5G. Accordingly device developers are rolling out communication services, including ‘Voice over LTE’ across these newly available frequencies.
How can IoTAS help?
IoTAS have extensive experience in delivering test programs for VoLTE enabled devices, certified through the GCF and our ISO/EC 17025:2017 accreditation. These services include but are not limited to:
A new service, currently available on high end handsets, is Enhanc
ed Voice Services (EVS), a superwideband ‘speech’ standard. This VoLTE offering comprises tangible improvements for person to person calls, conference (AV) calls and streaming. Only available across supporting Operator Networks this facility can also be tested with our ‘VoLTE – Live Network’ suite of services.
One of the most laborious activities, when developing new User Equipment, is achieving Regulatory & Approvals compliance. It can be an extremely complex process, often governed by different standards depending upon where the User Equipment shall be deployed.
IoTAS have the experience, skill set, business relationships and Network intelligence to provide guidance, consultancy, test and management services for customers seeking Regulatory and Approvals compliance.
In addition we can offer Assessment Capable Entity (ACE) services through our accreditation with the Global Certification Forum, enabling us to determine the range of tests required in the certification of a device, as well as assessing all those test results, in order to ensure the device adheres to all applicable certification criteria.
If you think we could be of assistance then please contact us directly on firstname.lastname@example.org
In an emergency your natural reaction will be to ‘call’ for help and the obvious way to do this is with your mobile phone. The emergency services will need to know where you are and mobile phones can help you by using Advanced Mobile Location (AML) technology.
AML allows use of smart phone technology to pass assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) or Wi-Fi based location data to emergency service Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). These technologies are able to provide a location precision radius of 5m, a significant improvement on existing cell coverage provided by mobile networks which has accuracy measured in kilometres!
With the AML Emergency call service becoming a mandatory requirement in many countries from 2021, IoTAS have designed testing services, based around the ETSI TS 103 625 specification, to ensure product compliance.

Simulated & Live Network Testing with IoTAS
We are all aware of SMS; it’s a part of daily life, but with the global coverage of reliable mobile operator networks, the ability to use this communication medium as an emergency ‘alert’ system has become the accepted norm and a wide area broadcast tool.
But how do you know that it works? Wide scale random emergency broadcast ‘testing’ would very quickly cause irritation, annoyance and possibility of being ignored by the very people you are trying to alert.
IoTAS are now able to offer both simulated and live network testing services for Cell Broadcast and Short Message services and are currently performing these tests in a number of global locations.
Please call us on +44 (0)1223 810010 to discuss your requirements.
It’s a favourite drum for us to beat but we do it because we are committed to, and insist upon reliable, trusted and certified test procedures and reporting to provide our customers with the results they need to achieve for their device validation.
Our ISO/IEC 17025:2017 – Laboratory Accreditation is issued through the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), the United Kingdom’s sole national accreditation body. The UK Government has confirmed UKAS’ role as the National Accreditation Body (NAB) following our exit from the EU.

If you are considering testing your 3GPP cellular devices for IOP, certification and Operator approvals, or seeking advice, consultation and program management for compliance and regulatory approvals then contact IoTAS today and be quality assured.
Currently we’re running adverts in UK5G magazine, the national innovation network dedicated to the promotion of research, collaboration and the industrial application of 5G in the UK.
And you’ll also find us in the latest British Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (BAPCO) magazine.
